When my parents named me Martinique, I’m sure they couldn’t have imagined their daughter would grow up traveling the world, unapologetically telling Black stories. I doubt they foresaw how deeply rooted I would become in the ancestral journeys that connect the African Diaspora across continents. But here we are. Standing in a country whose name I carry , I was reminded just how intentional and divinely ordered my steps truly are.
My dad always said they chose the name Martinique because the island and its people were breathtaking. He told me it didn’t matter your age or gender, they never encountered a single person who wasn’t beautiful.

And he was right. Martinique is stunning in ways that go
far beyond appearance. From the crisp island air and the sweet scent of sugar cane, to waves crashing against the shore and trees heavy with fruit , I felt connected the moment my feet touched this land. And let me tell you… the Ti’ Punch had me in a chokehold from day one!
My second visit to Martinique was about learning , listening, building relationships, and understanding the rhythm of the island. But my third time? That was the confirmation. The icing on the cake. I’ve never felt so drawn to a place or more compelled to use my platform to intentionally support tourism the way I do for Martinique.
It’s the people. The places. The landscapes. The creativity. The ability to make something out of nothing while staying deeply rooted in legacy and culture. Preservation isn’t accidental here , it’s intentional. And that responsibility belongs to all of the entreperneurs I've encountered, and now me.
I am beyond proud to connect you to my namesake, and some of the incredible people who make it unforgettable, this is Black-owned Martinique!
Stay
Hotel Plein Soleil - From the moment I arrived, I knew this stay would be different. Nestled among the trees, the serenity immediately wrapped around me. I was greeted by a golf cart and the most wonderful woman who warmly escorted me to my room, setting the tone for what would be a truly special experience.
When I stepped inside, I was stunned. The rooms are absolutely beautiful — rich wooden finishes, cozy seating perfect for collecting your thoughts, dancing like no one’s watching, or simply being. From the second floor, I had uninterrupted views of the Atlantic, and I found myself pausing often just to take it all in.

Walking downstairs into the lower level made me smile all over again. With access to a stunning bathroom and a serene master bedroom, both spaces opened directly to my own private pool and sitting area. This is where magic happens — floating breakfasts, post-dinner desserts, and quiet moments that feel completely your own.
Every piece of art caught my attention, each one deeply rooted in Martinican tradition, telling stories without saying a word. I loved it. And I loved the staff who greeted me every morning with genuine care and warmth.
This intimate, 16-room, five-star hotel is made for travelers seeking a chic, tranquil hideaway the kind of place where time slows down and you leave feeling restored.
Hotel Bambou - I love a hotel that’s walking distance to the beach and rooted in the community, and Hotel Bambou delivers on both. This boutique hotel is deeply grounded in Creole culture from the bold colors and flavorful cuisine to the unique cultural experiences and art-filled rooms. It’s the kind of place that works beautifully for both short getaways and longer stays.

With the beach just a one-minute walk away, I found myself in the ocean every morning and again at sunset. There’s something incredibly grounding about starting and ending your day that way, especially in a place that feels so alive.
Even if you’re traveling solo, you’re never really alone here. Because the hotel is woven into the local community, it’s common to see locals performing during dinner and then catch them again later at a nearby bar. With the casino, town center, and pier all within close proximity, there’s always something happening and getting to Fort-de-France is just a quick 20-minute ferry ride away.
On my first visit, I missed the traditional cultural performance, but the second time? I made sure not to miss a thing. I was welcomed into a beachside performance filled with drumming and dancing and yes, I participated on the beach and when the dinner show called for volunteers. Don’t tempt me with a good time, because I will absolutely join in!
Hotel Bambou isn’t just a place to stay it’s a place to feel Martinique.
Villa Millawi - Dominique and Béatrice felt like family from the very beginning. The moment I stepped into their stunning eco-luxury accommodation the only Airbnb Luxe property in Martinique, I knew this was something special. All I could think was, ''I can't wait to show everyone this place'' .
Villa Malawi is an exceptional property where intention meets design. With two levels and two distinct living concepts, every detail has been thoughtfully curated. The villa features a beautiful pool overlooking the southern part of the island, and its partially open-air layout makes it perfect for milestone celebrations, honeymoons, or an unforgettable girls’ or guys’ trip.

Recently opened in January 2025, this stay allows you to experience Martinique both on and off the property. Inside, you’ll find a carefully curated collection of books and objects that celebrate Martinique’s culture, traditions, authors, and diverse beauty much of which is recognized through multiple UNESCO World Heritage classifications. And if you choose, you never even have to leave. The villa offers bookable experiences designed to bring the island directly to you.
From a private chef to an in-house masseuse (see Kayla Beauty under self-care), hospitality rooted in Martinican tradition comes straight to your door. And when you do venture out, you’re only minutes from the island’s southern coast, where pristine beaches, excursions, and some of the best of Martinique await.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention this: my favorite art piece from Martinique lives inside this villa. I’ve never been so taken aback by something that technically isn’t real and yet feels so deeply alive. If you didn’t know the beauty of Martinique before, you’ll feel it the moment you see her… and the moment you stay here. I also have to thank Dominique and Beatrice for introducing me to Black owned Bakery Patisserie Hery.
Apolline Martinique - Although I didn’t stay overnight, I was incredibly grateful for the opportunity to enjoy breakfast here and be fully immersed in the energy of the property as it had been at the very top of my list. As you know, searching for “Black-owned” anything in destinations where English isn’t the first language or where ownership isn’t framed that way can be challenging. Many places simply aren’t labeled as such. I was able to find this gem because of its Creative Director, and that alone speaks volumes.

I first learned about Apolline Martinique through Moana Luu. At the time, she had just stepped into her role at Essence, and I remember reading her article and feeling an overwhelming sense of pride and excitement, especially learning that she was from Martinique. Her presence in that role is a powerful reminder of how Caribbean culture shapes the world, and how visibility creates pathways for people who might otherwise never know these stories or places exist.
Fast forward to my first visit: Apolline was fully booked due to Carnival. My second visit? Still fully booked. However, they graciously welcomed me in to experience the magic of the property and that meant everything. Sitting down for breakfast, overlooking the views of Fort-de-France, I couldn’t stop thinking about how fresh everything tasted. The fruit, the juice it all felt alive. When I shared how much I loved it, they invited me to the back to pick my own mangoes. That moment alone told me everything I needed to know about the character of the managers and the brand.
Touring the property felt like stepping into a cozy, boho-meets-nautical dream. The bathrooms and interior design stood out the most , each space felt like art with intention, carrying messages only a few would truly understand. The checkered floors, the honeycomb bookshelf, the soft hints of blue woven throughout , it all left a lasting impression.
But the moment I had been waiting for was finally seeing the Zamana tree. The second I stood before it, I felt rooted, grounded, and still. Positioned at the entrance of the property, this massive Zemana tree , one of the oldest and largest in the Antilles , has a deck built around it, offering exactly what you need in that moment: rest, shade, reflection, and peace. Everything leads back to that tree.
When it comes to hospitality and ensuring everyone has access to it Redoute Paradise is a perfect example of what’s possible. This accommodation shows what happens when passion meets imagination, and when people build a tourism experience that truly invites you into their world.
From the moment we arrived, we knew this stay would be unlike anything we expected. Quirky statement pieces immediately set the tone, creating an atmosphere that felt playful, intentional, and entirely unique. As soon as the gate opened, it was clear we were being introduced to something special.
Owned by Mr. Patrick, a true lover of animals, Redoute Paradise feels like a living, breathing ecosystem. Guinea pigs, rabbits, fish, turtles, and birds call the property home. What struck me most was how seamlessly they coexist with guests , you’re never inconvenienced, but you’re fully aware that you’re being welcomed into their space.

Walking down the stairs, you’re greeted by a stunning pool and lush lounge area, complete with poolside seating and cabanas that instantly invite you to slow down. Each room on the property has its own personality. I stayed in the Cocoa Tent Suite, which came with my own private jacuzzi, perfect for after long days of exploring.
Throughout the property, bold and memorable art pieces appear at every turn: a gorilla splashed in vibrant orange paint, a life-sized, multicolored giraffe standing proudly across the way. Every corner felt like unlocking a new level in a game ,unexpected, fun, and full of surprises.
With a 24-hour gym on-site, multiple jacuzzis, and expansive outdoor spaces, there’s truly never a dull moment. Even with our packed itinerary, it was clear that this is a place you could easily spend days enjoying without ever needing to leave.
One of my favorite moments each day was breakfast. I love when owners are visible, and seeing Mr. Patrick every morning personally preparing a beautiful spread made the experience feel even more special. It gave us time to ask questions, connect, and taste traditional Martinican delicacies like boudin, alongside an assortment of fresh, local fruits.
Whether you’re traveling solo or with family, Redoute Paradise feels familiar, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. Perfectly located and full of heart, it’s a reminder that the best hospitality doesn’t just accommodate you it invites you in.
I have never felt so compelled to simply be in a space the way I felt at Domaine de la Trace. Stepping onto the property feels like entering a posh, storied past—an experience unlike anything else. Nestled deep within the rainforest, this restored treasure seamlessly weaves heritage, hospitality, and history, all while celebrating the very soul of Creole culture.
Every corner makes you feel like royalty. From moving through its elegant parlors to soaking in gold-plated bathrooms with bathtubs you never want to leave, the experience is pure indulgence. This 20th-century home creates an atmosphere where beauty, peace, and intention surround you at all times, set against one of the most breathtaking backdrops imaginable.

You can spend hours sitting still, watching hummingbirds dance through the air, or wander the grounds picking fresh pineapples, cherries, and even nutmeg straight from the land. Domaine de la Trace is not just a place to stay—it’s a space to experience. Trusted by brands like Netflix and Miss Martinique, the property is multi-use, allowing guests to both stay and create.
If you’re searching for a venue for a wedding, celebration, or editorial fashion shoot, this is it. And if what you need is a truly unique stay—one that allows you to unplug, reset, and recharge—this is also your place. While the property doesn’t come with a chef, bringing one in for an unforgettable dinner party is an absolute must.
I turn 40 in 14 months, and without question, I will be celebrating here.
The owners are a beautiful family who have poured their heart and soul into preserving and sharing this gem. Yes, the place is extraordinary but make no mistake, the people are just as special. I arrived as a guest and left as part of the family.

When I touch down in Martinique, I’m always chasing the VIBES and trust me, there’s no shortage. I was especially excited to experience a Two Be Cool event, the premier party promoters on the island.
Hosting 10–12 events a year, what truly sets Two Be Cool apart is their intentional partnerships and attention to quality. With top-tier DJs spinning everything from Bouyon, Zouk, Soca, Reggae, to R&B, they create an unforgettable atmosphere that speaks perfectly to a mature crowd. And let me tell you, I had a ball.
You can feel the care in every detail. From the music selection to the crowd experience, it’s clear that guest enjoyment is their top priority, right alongside producing high-quality, well-executed events. Two Be Cool doesn’t just throw parties , they curate experiences.
I don’t like coffee or at least, I didn’t think I did until this experience.
Created by specialty coffee connoisseur Luigi Germany, this sensory journey is one you absolutely cannot miss. Going in with no expectations, our time with Mr. Germany became one of the most unforgettable moments of my trip.
Luigi is a true artisan—he grows, dries, roasts, and grinds his own coffee, guiding you through the entire process in a way that feels personal and deeply rooted in culture. This isn’t just about coffee; it’s about connection. Through conversation, soulful music, and shared moments, we didn’t just learn we indulged, laughed, danced, and fully leaned into the experience.

The aroma alone pulls you in instantly, but it’s Luigi’s story that stays with you. Preserving his family’s legacy through specialty coffee, he stands as one of only two Black coffee entrepreneurs on the island. He doesn't take being committed to honoring and elevating Martinique’s coffee culture lightly and for him, coffee is about creating moments, the kind that make people think of home, family, and the beauty of Martinique itself.
With the ability to purchase his specialty coffee online and plans to expand into Southern California, Luigi is clearly just getting started. I’m rooting for his global success, and I’m telling you now , GO VISIT THIS MAN.
Hike Mount Pelée
This is a six-hour trek in total, but we opted for the shorter two-hour route, reaching the first of three checkpoints and let me be clear, this is not for the faint of heart. An intermediate-to-advanced climb, you’ll use every inch of your body to make it up that mountain. It’s a full-body experience in the truest sense.

Our guide, Gill, is truly that guy. At 60 years young, it’s no surprise he looks at least 15 years younger as he climbs this mountain three to four times a week and is in phenomenal shape. I did my best to keep up with him, and along the way he shared the history of the land, picked fresh wild raspberries for me to taste, and made sure I felt both comfortable and challenged throughout the climb.
The conditions made it even better if I can be truthful. It wasn’t a sunny day, we were literally kissing the clouds, and honestly, I preferred it that way. The mist, the cool air, the quiet, it felt powerful, grounding, and earned.
This experience is perfect for athletes, adventure-seekers, or anyone craving a true physical and mental challenge while connecting deeply with nature.
If you’re ready to take it on, you can reach Gill directly at randopm972@gmail.com
If you’re ready for a boat day, Oliv' Express is an automatic YES. This is a full-day experience rain or shine where all you have to do is show up and be ready to enjoy a perfect day island-hopping and eating your way through Martinique.
What I loved most about this experience is that you can truly just be. Soak up the sun, swim, float, and relax in the water for hours. You’ll even trek across a private island, spotting iguanas and learning about the land along the way.

And did I mention the food and drinks, because whew! Eat and drink your heart’s desire. A Ti-Punch every hour on the hour if that’s your speed, and then there’s lunch. The lunch is unforgettable. The plantain casserole and lobster had me cleaning my plate without shame.
Add in the Soca because they could see immediately that I love it and I was dancing and singing all day. This is one of those experiences you tell everyone to have, It’s a beautiful way to see parts of Martinique you wouldn’t normally access, and Captain Oliver is fantastic.
I've done it twice now and each time has been different yet magical. Definitely tap in.
Learn
One of the most sought-after experiences in Martinique is this outstanding man-made, open-air museum that tells the story so often left out, the story from the perspective of the enslaved, the story that doesn’t soften the truth or skip the details. Welcome to La Savane des Esclaves (Slaves’ Savannah).
Created by the unforgettable Gilbert Larose, this extraordinary space was built entirely by his own hands. His commitment to preserving Martinique’s heritage is unmatched, and throughout the grounds, stories from over 400 years ago are brought to life with care and honesty.

Open seven days a week, visitors can choose a guided or self-guided tour, and either way, all five senses are activated.
You’ll watch powerful videos, taste fresh juice made directly from the land, and enjoy what might be the best Accra on the island. You’ll smell medicinal and edible plants growing throughout the property, hear the surrounding wildlife, and touch pieces of history preserved inside traditional huts that show how people lived well into the 20th century.
Spanning three hectares, the park is beautifully curated with gardens, juice bars, restaurants, and a gift shop. But what makes this place truly remarkable is how it came to be. Gilbert Larose built La Savane des Esclaves with no funding, no engineers, and no outside assistance, only his brilliance, determination, and an unwavering commitment to preserving a legacy that had long gone unrecognized.
This isn’t just a museum. It’s an act of resistance, remembrance, and reclamation, in a place where Slavery still isn't acknowledged as being something horrific. I'm so proud of this man and all he continues to do, and I LOVE seeing people of all ages and races visit and ready to learn the truth!
The Anse Cafard Slave Memorial
Completed in 1998 by Martinican sculptor Laurent Valére, this site is the one that always pulls hardest at my heart. It feels like a calling I can’t ignore—like a place I was meant to find, like my ancestors themselves whispered, come see us… and tell the world we mattered too.
The Anse Cafard Slave Memorial is a powerful act of remembrance and reclamation. It invites everyone to “say their names,” even when we don’t know them. Fifteen statues, each standing eight feet tall, are arranged in a triangle, gazing out at the same breathtaking blue sea that took their lives and yet ensured their stories would never disappear.

There are no barriers here. Nothing separates you from the truth, the grief, or the responsibility. You are allowed and encouraged to walk amongst the sculptures, to feel the weight of history, and to leave knowing that once you’ve stood in this space, it becomes your duty to tell the world what you witnessed.
These ground are a conversation between the past and the present and once you arrive, you are part of it.
Honestly, this is an experience I didn’t know I needed and one I absolutely wasn’t ready for. I had never even heard of a Yole until that day, and when they told us we were doing a “boat initiation,” I had no idea what that actually meant.
A Yole is a traditional boat native to Martinique. Originally used for fishing, it has evolved into one of the island’s most exhilarating and competitive racing sports. Yole racing demands intense teamwork, an understanding of wind patterns, and most importantly , balance. Your body becomes part of the vessel.
And yes… balance means using your weight. You climb out onto long wooden paddles extending from the boat and shift forward or backward to keep it from tipping. Sometimes that means placing your entire body on the paddle and literally hanging off the side over the water. It sounds as wild as it looks and it is. After they showed us, I was like WHOSE DOING THAT?? I was not feeling it, but my friend Nicole was absolutely fearless and helped calm some of my nerves

The teams make it look effortless because they are incredibly skilled and deeply in love with the sport. I, however, was not in love at first… at least not until the end 😂. What started as nerves quickly turned into pure adrenaline. Being out on the open sea, working together, fully present, and kissed by the Martinican sun was unforgettable.
This particular club has an English-speaking crew who were incredibly patient, kind, and encouraging, which made all the difference. While this isn’t an experience most visitors know about, I highly recommend stepping out of your comfort zone, trying it, and staying for the happy hour afterward.
You are sure to leave with a story you’ll never stop telling.
Self Care
When visiting Villa Malawi, Kayla is the on-site masseuse who understands the art of relaxation. Kayla worked in France but brought her talents back to her country. As an entrepreneur, she has a gift for helping you slow down, recharge, and fully reset setting the tone for an elevated stay.
Experiencing her massage in the open-air living room was pure bliss. Surrounded by nature, with the breeze moving through the space, I was completely at ease and yes, by the end I was snoring peacefully . With relaxation as one of her core pillars, Kayla creates an environment where you can genuinely let go, both physically and mentally.
Mission accomplished. I left refreshed, grounded, and already looking forward to my next session
Wellness is finally taking its rightful place at the forefront of tourism, and Bouliki Bio & Spa is proof of what happens when healing and self care is reimagined. This is an experience you truly cannot replicate anywhere else.
We arrived with no expectations and left on cloud nine. People often highlight wellness traditions in Ghana or the mud baths of Jamaica, but what David and his family have created here is something entirely their own and it’s exquisite. Rooted in care, knowledge, and generational wisdom, their offerings are deeply restorative and thoughtfully curated.

At its core, Bouliki is an open-air hammam, but one that invites you to reconnect with nature, tune into yourself, and fully surrender to the moment. This is a six-hour experience, rain or shine, with multiple wellness rituals woven together in a way that nourishes your mind, body, and soul.
My favorite experience was the Tizanecuzzy hot bath: a massive infusion scented with fresh porcelain roses, heated by a wood fire. Add to that a scrub made with fresh aromatic plants while relaxing in the river, and you begin to understand the magic. Every step of the journey is guided , allowing you to trust both the process and the people leading it.
They ensure you’re fed, hydrated, and fully supported throughout the day, and the experience is open to everyone including youth ages 12–18 when accompanied by an adult. We genuinely did not want to leave, I encourage everyone who visits Martinique to make space for this experience.
Indulge
Very close to Apolline Martinique sits Galanga Fish Bar, a beloved favorite for both locals and visitors alike. This ode to Creole culture with an urban twist is truly a blueprint for modern Martinican cuisine.
Led by Chef Yadji Zami, Galanga is a masterclass in creativity and flavor. His approach to food takes you on a journey, each dish layered, intentional, and undeniably memorable. Quite literally, everything on the menu is delectable.

Open Monday through Friday, the restaurant stays consistently full, so reservations are highly recommended. Come prepared for a dining experience that tells a story. You never quite know what you’ll get, the lunch menu is seasonal, and the five-course dinner is a blind tasting, designed to surprise and delight.
Beyond dining in, my third visit introduced me to an entirely new level of the Galanga experience. We were treated to a private dinner curated by the Galanga team, and it was nothing short of epic. Every course was intentionally crafted and beautifully presented. The pairings were magnifique, and the experience felt both intimate and elevated.
If you’re looking for a culinary moment that lingers long after the last bite, I highly recommend exploring Galanga’s private dining options as well.
The moment I stepped off the plane, I knew exactly what I wanted: local food. My driver, who is now officially family said, “I know the place.” And when we pulled up to Kai Nono, I knew it was about to go down. The diversity of people inside told me everything I needed to know.
It was a Sunday, the harbor views were stunning, and everyone was enjoying life. As my first real introduction to Martinican cuisine, Kai Nono did not disappoint. This was my very first Ti’ Punch experience, my first true seafood moment, and my introduction to traditional Martinican desserts, what a time!
Now listen… nobody warned me about how much Ti’ Punch is too much , so by the time the meal was over, I wasn’t just full I was ready for a nap. No regrets.
I love a balance of local gems and elevated dining, and Kai Nono hit that sweet spot perfectly. It’s warm, authentic, scenic, and full of flavor , easily one of my favorite meals on the island.
Located just steps away from Hotel Bambou, Le Kano is the perfect beachside restaurant, adorned with Black art, bold flavors, and strong drinks. Every time I come here, I leave happy. The food always hits, the service is warm, and I’m guaranteed to leave full.
One of my favorite parts is the walk over. Passing locals playing dominoes along the way feels like a reminder that you’re truly in the community, not just visiting it.
Le Kano effortlessly doubles as both a restaurant and a lounge, and on weekends the vibes are high. If you’re looking to switch things up for dinner, enjoy ocean views, and a lively atmosphere, this spot is an easy yes.
A local restaurant tucked into a fisherman’s playground, this spot instantly won me over. With a strong menu I tried my best not to order everything. For the record, starting with a Ti-Punch was non-negotiable.

By lunchtime, families began filing in, and that alone showed me what this place meant to the community. I leaned all the way into local appetizers, and not a single one disappointed.
The seafood was fresh, the ingredients were vibrant, and let’s talk about the real win they had hot sauce, which isn’t always easy to find.
I absolutely did not need dessert, but I got it anyway. A traditional rice pudding that I was very glad I didn’t skip.
I first visited Sun Fly on my way to the airport, and it immediately made sense why this spot is such a vibe. Located right at the port in Fort-de-France, it’s the kind of place that pulls you in without trying too hard.
They have an extensive seafood menu, but my absolute favorite ,hands down are the marlin fries. My family (shoutout to Adrien of SDATAXI) brought me here, and now it’s a non-negotiable stop every visit.
I’ve been during the day and at night, and the experience is always consistent: fast service, fresh food, and the right chunes playing. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite before heading out or looking for a place to lime and soak in the energy, Sun Fly is a must.
We visited as a group, and from the start, the service was fast and seamless. The restaurant’s prime location made the experience even better, setting the tone for an easy, enjoyable evening.
I’m always drawn to menus that incorporate edible flowers, for me, they represent the island in its fullest form and both my ravioli and shrimp were beautifully plated and delicious.
Now let’s talk about the bread. The local bread alone had us asking for seconds (and thirds). Infused with island spices, the turmeric roll completely stole the show as we were all in a trying to figure out the recipe.
Dessert sealed the deal. The crème brûlée was prepared to perfection and served in the cutest heart-shaped dish, a small detail that made a big impression.
To top it all off, once we finished eating, we were just steps away from Rue Colorée, which made the transition from dinner to exploring effortless. Perfect food, perfect flow, perfect night.
I met Chef Tedd at a Two Be Cool event, where he was preparing meals for the guests—and let me tell you, I was starving. The timing couldn’t have been better, and one bite in, I knew I was in good hands.
Chef Tedd has created a box-style culinary concept, offering beautifully curated meals centered around themes like seafood, local favorites, and French-inspired dishes. Everything is sourced locally, thoughtfully prepared, and presented with so much care that it’s immediately clear—this is not your average chef.

Beyond events, he’s available for private dinners, lunches, and pre-made culinary products for businesses, making his work both versatile and impactful. His ability to blend flavor, presentation, and intention is something special.
I’m truly excited to see what’s next for Chef Tedd
I’m incredibly grateful that we not only got to experience Chef Prisca’s cooking, but also her workshops, which are the perfect introduction to Martinican cuisine and an amazing option for bonding.
We first encountered her during a workshop at La Mauny Distillery, and from the moment we started, it was a vibe. Local snacks, fresh vegetables, fragrant spices and of course, Ti-Punch. Chef Prisca was energetic, kind, and so patient with our group. Cooking alongside her was truly a joy.
A blogger, culinary host, and TV presenter, Chef Prisca has put in the work to bring Martinican cuisine to your plate, and whew… its GOOD. She didn’t stop there, she was also our private chef for breakfast two mornings, and we were beyond excited to indulge each day.
Without a doubt, I’ll be hiring Chef Prisca for my 40th birthday celebrations in 2027. She is the kind of culinary experience that stays with you.
Connect
Not only is Mounia Black history, she's a living legend the entire fashion industry should forever be grateful for. As the first Black haute couture model, she pioneered space on the runway where none previously existed. Her story is extraordinary.
I won’t give too much away, because this is an experience you need to have for yourself but never underestimate how one job can change the course of your life, and always, always dress to impress. What I love most about Mounia’s journey is that it’s deeply rooted in tourism how travel, exposure, and opportunity can open doors that quite literally change the world.

Beyond fashion, she is also a gifted artist, and this experience allows you to learn about her life while witnessing her work firsthand. Like so many others, home called her back.
Sitting at the feet of an icon was surreal. Flipping through fashion books that acknowledge her influence as a true game changer and leader left me in awe. When our time together ended, neither of us was ready. She made me promise to return, to spend more time, to continue the conversation and I can’t wait to do exactly that.
Some people don’t just make history. They are the history.
Meeting May Clémenté reminded me just how powerful it is to see someone from my own generation move with intention, discipline, and passion toward their craft. Once she began sharing her story, it was clear that art lives in her blood. Coming from a family of builders, creation isn’t just something she does, it’s who she is.

Walking through her gallery felt like witnessing every chapter of her artistic journey unfold in real time. Each phase tells a story, bold, layered, and deeply personal. Her work pushes boundaries while remaining rooted in lived experience, weaving together Martinican landscapes, traditions, and moments from her own life in a way that feels intimate and expansive.
What I loved most is how her art invites you to see, feel, and reflect. There are multiple narratives within each piece, depending on how you enter the space. The experience ends beautifully with a local rum tasting from a outstanding Rummlier Greg, the perfect full-circle moment that grounds you back in place after being carried through her world.
I’m excited to continue supporting May not just in Martinique, but everywhere her art travels.

Ms. Sylvanie is a once-in-a-lifetime person, someone everyone should know. Yes, she’s a celebrated artist with literal gold in her hands every time she creates a traditional mask, but beyond her talent, she is simply a phenomenal human being.
She is pure energy and warmth. We don’t even speak the same language, yet every time I see her, I hug her a little tighter because love needs no translation. Her joy is contagious, her smile lights up any room, and her heart is as genuine as they come. I absolutely adore her.
I had the honor of creating a mask with her in her studio, and let me be clear, these are not ordinary masks. They are Carnival icons. With Martinique as her muse, Sylvanie leads a Carnival procession every year, and if you truly understand the meaning of Carnival, the characters, the history, the symbolism , you understand why her work is so vital. Her artistry preserves culture, memory, and spirit.

Her motto, “No mistakes, only magic,” gave me permission to create freely, without limits or fear. She let me vibe, explore, and trust the process. And honestly? The final result was so incredible I still can’t believe I had anything to do with it.
Getting to know Sylvanie through her story and her art makes it clear why she is a national treasure. Her work is rare, powerful, and rooted in culture. If you have the opportunity to create with her, take it. It’s not just an art experience; it’s a soul experience.
Transportation
I always say your first friend in any destination is the person who provides your transportation—and Adrien proved that to be absolutely true. When I met him, I had no idea just how grateful I’d be to not only have a driver, but a guide, connector, and friend.
Anything I needed, Adrien knew exactly where to find it. More importantly, he understood my mission and went out of his way to introduce me to Black entrepreneurs across the island. There were multiple moments when I’d say, “You can’t leave me—you have to come with me here,” and without hesitation, he did. Because of him, I experienced Martinique through a completely different lens.
Finding an English-speaking driver in Martinique isn’t always easy, so having Adrien was truly a gift. His knowledge, patience, and genuine care made every journey feel effortless and meaningful. He didn’t just take me from place to place—he helped me connect to the heart of the island.
If you’re visiting Martinique and need transportation services, Adrien is my top recommendation
Now, having had the opportunity to visit the island three times , twice in the past six months, I fully understand the calling placed on my life. I was born to raise awareness for this destination and to amplify the Black entrepreneurs I’ve had the privilege of meeting, as well as those I have yet to discover. I mean really, who better than me?
The Caribbean is one of the most beautiful regions, yet the global narrative continues to spotlight only a handful of countries. Today as you're reading this, that stops! Martinique is captivating, layered, diverse, and truly magnifique, it deserves to be seen, experienced, and celebrated for all that it is.

Just as my mission once was “to change the face of tourism forever,” it has now evolved into something even more specific and personal: to change the trajectory of tourism in Martinique forever. Specifically when it comes to Black-owned Martinique.
It’s no coincidence that I carry this name. And even though it took me 38 years to fully return, I now understand that this journey, this connection, and this work are part of my destiny.
Once you finish reading this, share it with someone else. Awareness is how impact begins.
Thank you for your continued support, and see you in Martinique.
